Institute Forum to Offer Military Assessment of Free Syrian Army

WASHINGTON - The Washington Institute for Near East Policy will host a Policy Forum luncheon on Tuesday, April 10, from 12:00p.m. – 2:00p.m. ET featuring Institute defense fellow Jeffrey White and senior fellow with the Center for a New American Security, Andrew Exum, who will offer their military assessment of the Free Syrian Army. As the military confrontation between the Assad regime and the armed opposition deepens, this forum will provide critical insight into the unity, capability, and effectiveness of the conflict’s principal armed opposition group. Both presenters are seasoned military strategists who have advised officials at the highest level of the pentagon.
Due to limited space, members of the press must register to attend by 12 noon, April 9, by sending a request to press@washingtoninstitute.org. Confirmation of attendance will be sent as soon as possible. Television outlets must indicate if they wish to bring a camera to the event.

About the Experts
Jeffrey White is a defense fellow at The Washington Institute, specializing in the military and security affairs of the Levant and Iran. Previously, he completed a thirty-four-year career with the Defense Intelligence Agency, serving in a wide variety of senior analytical and leadership positions.
Andrew Exum, a senior fellow with the Center for a New American Security, is editor of the blog Abu Muqawama and author of This Man’s Army: A Soldier’s Story from the Frontlines of the War on Terror (Gotham, 2004). His military career included leading a platoon of Army Rangers in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as advising top CENTCOM officials.
