New Podcast Series Surveys the Middle East

Near East PolicyCast Grapples with the Challenges of a Tumultuous Region

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As Washington prepares for a change of administration, the Washington Institute introduces “Middle East 2017: Challenges and Choices,” a podcast series that provides policymakers and the general public with analysis on ISIS, Syria, Iran, the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, and a host of Middle East issues at the top of the U.S. foreign policy agenda. Middle East 2017: Challenges and Choices is the first serial in the Institute’s new podcast channel, Near East PolicyCast.

“From the halls of power in Washington to the market stalls of Tunis to the battlefields of Syria, our Near East PolicyCast will take listeners to the heart of American policy in this vital region,” said Robert Satloff, the Institute’s Executive Director and Howard P. Berkowitz Chair in U.S. Middle East Policy.

Middle East 2017: Challenges and Choices episodes include:

  • James Jeffrey, former U.S. ambassador to Turkey and Iraq, on U.S. grand strategy in the region
  • Dennis Ross, Middle East advisor to five U.S. administrations, on U.S. relationships in the region
  • Andrew Tabler on the conflict in Syria and its global ramifications
  • Eric Trager on governance in Egypt and its implications for U.S. policy

In addition, Near East PolicyCast includes interviews with experts and event excerpts on war crimes in Syria, Russia’s intervention in the Middle East, Islamic State propaganda, Hezbollah’s evolution into a regional power, and the revolution in Turkey’s foreign policy.
