Amir Afkhami is the director of preclinical education at George Washington University's Milken Institute School of Public Health and the author of A Modern Contagion: Imperialism and Public Health in Iran's Age of Cholera (2019). Previously, he served on the legislative staff of Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and led the State Department's Iraq Mental Health Initiative.
