Christine Abizaid was sworn in as director of the National Counterterrorism Center in June 2021, making her the first woman to lead America’s CT enterprise. Her fourteen years of national security experience include service as deputy assistant defense secretary for Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Central Asia during the Obama administration. She has also served on the National Security Council staff, the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Joint Intelligence Task Force-Combating Terrorism, and in other roles, with multiple deployments throughout the Middle East.
