Gideon Saar is a Tel Aviv-born Israeli politician. He is founder and head of Israel's New Hope party. Elected to the Knesset in 2003, he served as a member of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, the House Committee, the Committee for Immigration, Absorption, and Diaspora Affairs, and as Chairman of the Committee on the Status of Women. In the 17th Knesset (2006-2009) he also served as Deputy Speaker of the Knesset
Saar was appointed Minister of Education in March 2009, a position he held until March 2013 when he was appointed Minister of the Interior, serving until his resignation in November 2014, when he also resigned from the Knesset.
