Jennifer Gavito has been U.S. deputy assistant secretary of state for Iran and Iraq since August 2021, following a stint as minister-counselor for political affairs at the U.S. embassy in London. She has spent most of her foreign service career focused on the Middle East, having held posts in the United Arab Emirates, Libya, and Lebanon.
