John Delaney, a colonel in the United States Army, was a 2016-2017 visiting military fellow at The Washington Institute. Col. Delaney was commissioned as a field artillery officer following graduation from Elon University in 1991. He has held every key leadership position in the field artillery from company fire support officer to most recently field artillery brigade commander. Col. Delaney served three operational deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, two tours in Korea, and several duty locations within the United States.
Col. Delaney's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Afghanistan and Iraq Campaign Medals, the NATO Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Master Parachutist Badge, and the Army Staff Identification Badge.
