Sanam Vakil is deputy director of the Middle East and North Africa Programme at Chatham House, where she leads project work on Iran and Gulf Arab dynamics. Author of Women and Politics in the Islamic Republic of Iran: Action and Reaction (Bloomsbury, 2013), she received her PhD in international relations and economics from Johns Hopkins University.
