Selahattin Ibas is a colonel in the Turkish Air Force and a visiting Turkish military fellow at The Washington Institute. In Turkey, he serves as inspector-general of the 2nd Main Jet Base Command.
After graduating from the Turkish Air Force Academy in 1985, Colonel Ibas served in a number of key positions, including wingman, instructor, flight programming officer, electronic warfare officer, director of operations, and squadron commander. He also served as chief of the Coordination Section at Turkish Air Force headquarters. His overseas service has included postings as an exchange officer in Biloxi, Mississippi, and as chief of the interception section at Combined Air Operation Center-7 in Larissa, Greece. Overall, he has logged more than 3,500 hours of flight time in several different aircraft.
Colonel Ibas holds a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering from the Turkish Air Force Academy and will soon receive a doctorate in international relations from Gazi University in Ankara.
