Nora Marcos, a colonel in the U.S. Army, was a 2015-16 visiting military fellow at The Washington Institute. Most recently, Colonel Marcos commanded the Defense Information Systems Agency, Continental United States (DISA-CONUS), which is responsible for provisioning, managing and defending the Department of Defense network. Previously, Colonel Marcos served as the Army’s senior communications officer in Japan, where she provided all communications support for U.S. Army Japan and executed bilateral relations with the Japanese Signal and Cyber forces. Since joining the Army in 1990, she has commanded soldiers at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels, deploying twice to Iraq in leadership positions. During her 2009 deployment, she led a thousand-soldier task force near Tikrit. Colonel Marcos holds a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies from the National War College, an M.B.A. from the University of Central Texas, and a bachelor’s degree in management from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
