The 2007 Weinberg Founders Conference explored a number of critical issues, with an eye toward the overall direction of U.S. Middle East policy as the Bush administration enters its final year in office. In keynote plenary sessions and breakout seminars, and over coffee in the hallways, a select group of American and international officials, experts, diplomats, and journalists joined members of the Institute's Board of Trustees in a weekend of discussion and debate on the "surge" in Iraq, political struggles in Lebanon, peacemaking initiatives on the Arab-Israeli front, the looming nuclear standoff with Iran, and many other issues.
In addition, the conference featured two very special events: a keynote address by Vice President Richard Cheney, and the launching of The Washington Institute Book Prize, featuring a discussion between Bob Woodward, Kanan Makiya, and Jason Epstein. Summaries and transcripts of these and other events are now available for free download as a single PDF.
