These twenty-three profiles detail the personal background, political trajectory, and career aspirations of the members of Fatah's Central Committee.
In 2009, fourteen new members were elected to the Fatah Central Committee, the party's most senior institution, signaling a shift to a relatively younger generation of more reform-minded leaders. This generation, however, includes familiar names such as Jibril Rajoub, Saeb Erekat, Mohammad Dahlan, and the jailed but influential Marwan Barghouti.
On numerous occasions over the past two years, Fatah has announced its intention to host its next General Congress in the West Bank, but has invariably postponed it. But regardless of when the congress is held, the future composition of the Central Committee will affect Fatah's views on key themes such as relations with Israel, the role of international institutions in a Palestinian statehood bid, and the viability of a two-state solution.
These twenty-three profiles detail the personal background, political trajectory, and career aspirations of the Central Committee's members, who hold some of the most important portfolios in Palestinian politics.
