Gaza and Beyond: The Arab-Israeli Arena in the Wake of the Hamas War
With Middle East players from North Africa through the Gulf focused on the twin challenges of radical Sunni jihadism and the fear of Iranian expansionism, the Israel-Hamas war was more a symptom than a trigger of regional developments. Still, repercussions from the fighting, the on-again/off-again ceasefires, and the political alignments revealed during the conflict will be felt in Israeli-Palestinian relations, the wider Arab-Israeli arena, and domestic politics throughout the region. To discuss these evolving political dynamics, including how key Middle Eastern capitals view the Obama administration, The Washington Institute is pleased to host a Policy Forum with Ehud Yaari and Robert Satloff.
Ehud Yaari, the Institute's Lafer International Fellow, is a Middle East correspondent for Israel's Channel Two television and author of numerous works on Palestinian and wider Arab politics. As chronicled in the Atlantic, his coverage of the Gaza conflict was must-watch TV for Israelis and Palestinians alike.
Robert Satloff, the Institute's executive director, will have just returned from a postwar fact-finding trip to Egypt, Jordan, the West Bank, and Israel.
