On May 12, 2011, National Security Advisor Thomas E. Donilon delivered the Michael Stein Address on U.S. Middle East Policy at The Washington Institute's 2011 Soref Symposium.
Mr. Donilon is national security advisor to President Obama, a post he has held since October 2010. During the Clinton administration, he served as assistant secretary for public affairs and chief of staff at the State Department, overseeing the development and implementation of the department's major policy initiatives. He was awarded the Secretary of State's Distinguished Service Award -- the department's highest honor -- in November 1996. Currently, Mr. Donilon is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Brookings Institution board of trustees, the Miller Center of Public Affairs governing council, the Aspen Strategy Group, the National Security Advisory Group to the Congressional Leadership, and the Trilateral Commission.
