'The Siege of Mecca':Honoring Winner of Washington Institute Book Prize

On March 10, 2009, Yaroslav Trofimov, author of The Siege of Mecca, accepted the 2008 Gold Award in The Washington Institute's inaugural Book Prize competition. The ceremony took place at the New York Historical Society in New York City.
The Book Prize, established to highlight new nonfiction books on the Middle East, is among the world's most lucrative literary awards. Winners were chosen by a three-person jury that included eminent Middle East historian Bernard Lewis, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jim Hoagland, and acclaimed scholar of American foreign policy Michael Mandelbaum.
Following a reading of the Book Prize jury's award citation for The Siege of Mecca, Mr. Trofimov delivered an an acceptance speech and took questions from the audience.
